Book 2 of the Book Club for Women of Faith is: Her Mother's Hope by Francine Rivers.
I have been enjoying being part of a faith-based group of women as we are reading these books together. I hope you are following along with me. If you have not been following along, you can start at any time.
Our group leader has given us questions to aid in our discussion.

My brief summary and thoughts (spoiler alert: these are intended to share with those who have read the book):
1. My overall impression of this book was wonderful. I absolutely loved it. It was hopeful but difficult. It was filled with so many feelings and frustrations. I loved the way faith was intertwined into all the characters.
2. The book evoked many emotions. There was frustration that Marta could not tell Hildemara what she really thought and how much she loved her precious daughter. She never told her of her own sister Elise and her fear of the same fate.
3. There were many complex characters in the story. I liked Hildemara the most because of her quiet courage and inner strength combined with her faith in God. I related, however, to Marta the most. Although she was such a hard character, I guess I related to her because of the challenges of being a wife and mother. She truly wanted to do the best job she could for her family.
4. This book raised many questions about generations and parenting style differences. I wish I would have known my parents more deeply to know their background and how they were raised. This would have helped me understand how they parented me. Looking back now on how I have parented my own children, I only wish I would have been more truly present for them and hugged them more. Now that they are older I still try to keep in touch with them. I still try to share my faith and share the stories of my life.
This book has shown me that no matter what parenting mistakes have been made, the most important thing that you can pass onto the future generations is true faith in God.

Looking ahead, our next book we will be reading during the month of February is Surprised by Joy by C.S. Lewis. This book was first copyrighted in 1955 so it has taken on many covers, so yours may not look like this.
