Celebrate Earth Day with a sewing party in your home that focuses on recycling.
I love having ladies over to sew. I have had several Apron Making Parties, but the last few years my sewing parties have been focused on recycling. These parties are easy to plan, fun to do and very inexpensive. Below are a few party ideas.
Reusable Bags – Make and Take Party
Bring your sewing machine
I will have some bags cut out of my stash of fabrics
Not necessary, but you may bring any of these that you might have: fabric, t-shirts, pillowcases, birdseed or rice bags, curtains, etc.
I emailed out the invitation to some of my lady friends. I cut out a few bags. I had ribbon for straps and extra fabric available. I had coffee and croissants.
Several ladies made bags I had cut out. One designed her own. One brought her own tapestry fabric to make a book bag for her daughter. Many reusable bags were made while we chatted.

Re-Love It Day – A day to repair
This is an opportunity to repair, repurpose, re-hem, recycle while we re-acquaint
Repair a seam, replace a zipper or buttons. Repurpose a dress into a skirt.
I emailed out the invitation to some of my lady friends. I had all my thread and notions available. I had some of my machines set up.
I was amazed how much we got done in one morning over coffee. I worked on my stack of repairs. One friend converted two pairs of flared jeans into skinny cuffed cropped pants. Others repaired draperies, fixed a tear in a skirt, replaced buttons, repaired seams that had come undone. Many things got re-loved.
Other ways to recycle is to repurpose t-shirts or men's shirts. You can have a children's party where they bring t-shirts they have outgrown and make into pillows.
Let me know your sewing recycling ideas or if you have had a sewing party.
