This doesn’t have to happen if you tame your laundry before you put it in. Different animals can coexist. Bra hooks and exposed zippers can wreak havoc on delicate clothes, especially with so many styles made of lace. But who wants to hand wash these separately?
Before you load the washer:
Empty all pockets (gum is the worst, followed by lip gloss)
Fasten hooks on bras (these will get stuck even if you use a mesh lingerie bag)
Zip up all zippers
Fasten all velcro openings
Anything with exposed zippers should be turned inside out
Remove belts from belt loops (robes/shirt-dresses)
Follow the setting for the most delicate item in your load.
