Summer Sewing Camp Materials

You can plan your own Summer Sewing Camp.

This is part of a series of  instructions on how to teach your children to sew in the form of a camp.  Click on the button below for the entire series.


Today I will introduce the projects  with the emphasis on the materials you will need to run the first week of your Summer Sewing Camp.  These projects are also for any beginner learning to sew.  So you can use these projects to teach yourself to sew.  The actual tutorials and the lesson plans for these projects will follow.


Day One:  Straight Seams
Tissue Pack Cover- The Lost Apron
Tissue Pack Cover:  
Fabric:  Scrap the size of a sheet of paper or a fat quarter.
Other:  Pocket packs of facial tissue.  See Kleenex brand HERE.  Generic store brands will fit also.


Instant Gratification Pillow- The Lost Apron
The Instant Gratification Pillow:
Fabric:  1/2 yard
Other:  12X12 pillow form found HERE.


Day Two:  Pivots and Pockets
Reversible Tote Bag-The Lost Apron
Reversible Tote Bag:
Fabric:  1/2 yard for outside
                1/2 yard for inside
Other:  1 yard of 1" grosgrain ribbon or light-weight cotton strapping


Day Three:  Curves and Elastic
Eye Mask - The Lost Apron
Eye mask:
Fabric:  Remants, or fat quarter
Other:  1/2 yard of 3/8" elastic
                1/2 yard of black interfacing (optional)


Day Four:  Zippers and Creative Stitches
Zippered Pouch - The Lost Apron
Zippered Pouch:
Fabric:  1/4 yard of solid fabric for outside
                1/4 yard of print fabric for inside
Other:  nylon zipper measuring 9" or more
                Scraps of fabric, felt, buttons or ribbons for decorating outside
                Heat 'n Bond found HERE (optional)


All of the above projects will need thread.  White thread or nuetral color may work for all projects.


Summer Sewing Camp T-shirts
T-shirts can also add a fun element to you Summer Sewing Camp.  When I ordered these from VistaPrint.com they only had men's sizes.  They now carry women's and kid's t-shirts.  Consider ordering some for your campers.
