Zip and Hook Yourself into Your Dress

You are preparing for a big event. Your hair, makeup, and nails are ready. The last thing you have to do is put the dress on. This may be hard to do if you are alone or if your husband can't figure out (or can't see) what to do with that hook.

Here are some easy steps to get your party dress on yourself:

Step 1:
Find the opening where the zipper tab meets the zipper. Insert a paperclip into the hole. Casual zippers usually have a hole at the end of the tab that you can use instead, but invisible zippers do not.

Step 2:
Insert a ribbon into the paperclip. Pull through so that you have a long loop. Cut ribbon. Keep ends together. Tie ends into a knot.

Step 3:
Hook the hook and eye or snap the closure at the top of the zipper opening. I have discovered that if your head can fit into the opening with the hook already done, then you can hook the hook and eye before you put the dress on.

Step 4:
Put dress on over your head. Do not step into the dress. If it is a dark dress you may want to roll up the bottom of the dress to avoid deodorant mishap. Zip up the dress as far as you can from the bottom. (Ribbon not shown.)

Step 5:
Take a hint from the surfers. They have a zipper strap they use to pull up the zipper.

Step 6:
Reach back behind your neck and remove the paperclip. You are hooked and zipped and ready to go. Don't forget the shoes.
