Day 26. See other 31 Dayers at The Nesting Place.
When we were in Florence celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, we came upon this tombstone. We loved it. We thought this fit us. It was the best tombstone I had ever seen. But who were these people? Did they like to dance? Who picked this statue? Did the couple have it made or the children? If the children had it made, what did they think of their parents to choose this?
What are we showing our children about marriage? In Teens and Church, I said that the most important thing that you can do as parents to model Christ is to be committed in marriage to one another. Is your commitment showing?
My daughter recently was wearing a vintage swim suit when her friends told her she looked like The Notebook. I thought that now that she was 16 she was mature enough to see this. We saw it one night on Netflix. I had seen it a few times before but this time was different. I had always liked the young Noah and Allie, seen below played by Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams. This time I found myself relating much more with the older Noah and Allie at the end of their lives together and the love that they still shared. As the movie ended and my daughter and I were in tears it was interesting to hear what she had to say. She said she feared not finding someone she felt that way about. She wondered how I am always so excited about Dad when he comes home or calls. She said she wished she could have known us when we were younger. She could imagine us as the young Noah and Allie.
I guess our commitment is showing.
